The Fairfield County Voter Registration and Elections Office has announced that both the Republican and Democratic parties will hold primaries on Tuesday, June 12. Any necessary runoffs will be held on Tuesday, June 26. Any person wishing to vote in the primary must register no later than Saturday, May 12.
A list of Democratic Fairfield County Candidates was released by Democratic Party Treasurer shortly after the candidate filing deadline of noon on Friday.
For House of Representatives District 41, five Fairfield County Democratic candidates qualified for the primary: Mary Gail Douglas, Paul Dove, Annie E. McDaniel, Palmer Nicholson and Eugene Sutton.
One will face Republican candidate William Gray on Nov. 6.
South Carolina Senate District 17 incumbent Creighton Coleman has one Democratic challenger, Allen J. Bellavance of Ft. Lawn in Chester County. The winner will face the victor of the Republican primary, either Robert Carrison or Morgan Bruce Reeves.
Long-time Sheriff Herman W. Young faces off in the June 12 primary against Will Montgomery and Eddie L. White.
Clerk of Court Betty Jo Beckham is being challenged by Dorothy Boyd Belton and County Coroner Barkley Ramsey has no opposition and will retain his position.
