The long-awaited new nurse call system for Fairfield Memorial Hospital became closer to reality last week.
Michael Quinn, president of the Fairfield Memorial Hospital Foundation, presented a check for $15,000 to Mike Williams, hospital CEO, at the March 28 staff meeting. The money will be used as a down payment for a new modern system for all inpatient rooms.
Installation of the new $70,000 system is expected to begin this week and will be completed by the end of April. Financing of a loan is provided through the South Carolina Office of Rural Health.
A new nurse call system will enable patients and family members to communicate quickly with the nursing staff should they need assistance during their hospital stay.
“The FMH Foundation board is pleased to make this significant contribution to the hospital to benefit patients and staff. This contribution has been one of our major goals since the foundation was established in 2010,” Quinn said. “The funds raised for the contribution come from dedicated hospital employees, volunteers, community and business support. In addition to foundation memberships, funds are raised from our annual Gala event and engraved bricks for the Garden of Remembering, located in the hospital courtyard.”
Williams praised the efforts of the foundation.
“The foundation is meeting its mission by assisting the hospital with this critical need for our patients,” he said. “It is very gratifying to see the tangible results of our staff and our community working together through the foundation sustain and enhance the health services of our community hospital.”
