RIDGEWAY — A missing woman and her car were located late Friday night in Lake Wateree.
S.C. Department of Natural Resources dive teams and the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Department searched all day for Inge Conrad, 79, after a missing persons report was filed in Kershaw County.
Conrad visited her son in Lugoff on Thursday and did not arrive back home Thursday evening prompting her other son, who lives in the home with her, to file a missing persons report.
Tire track evidence discovered by the family Friday morning led investigators to believe her vehicle was in Lake Wateree with an entry point about 45 yards from her Rolling Hills Road home.
The DNR, along with rescue squads from Fairfield County, Newberry County and Kershaw County, searched for her using divers and boats before locating the vehicle late Friday. Fairfield County Coroner Barkley Ramsey said autopsy results showed Conrad died of drowning. There was no evidence of foul play in the tragic event.
“Our hearts got out to the family due to this terrible tragedy,” FCSO Captain Brad Douglas said.
