It’s finally here! After nearly a year of fundraising and planning, the 2012 American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life Fairfield County will take place tonight beginning at 7 p.m. at the Fairfield Central High School track.
“So far we have 37 teams, almost 400 participants and have raised over $37,000,” said event coordinator Mandy Ashley, a teacher at Fairfield Career and Technology Center in Winnsboro. “Our goal is $50,000, so please help us to raise as much as possible. Congratulation to all of the teams, students and community members on all your hard work! It has really paid off!”
This evening’s event begins with the Relay For Life survivor walk. Cancer survivors are invited to come even if they have not registered and will receive a free pin and T-shirt to wear. Caregivers will also receive a free pin. At 10 p.m. the luminary ceremony will begin. All of the lights will be cut off and luminary bags lit up. Each bag represents a cancer survivor, victim or a caregiver.
The relay will last until 7 a.m. There will be food for sale, an all-night DJ, entertainers, luminaries for purchase and much more.
Everyone is invited to come and join the fun. For more information, contact Mandy Ashley at 803-635-5506.
