Six Public Safety Agencies Converge On Newberry County for Dive Rescue Training This Weekend.

The Newberry County Water Rescue and Dive Team is hosting six agencies from across South Carolina this weekend for an intensive three day public safety training class taught by Dive Rescue International.

The teams, composed of Public Safety Divers, Surface Support Personnel and Law Enforcement Investigators, are learning the latest methods to more safely and more effectively respond to water related incidents .

The 18 personnel will be performing classroom and pool work all day Friday and Saturday morning. From there, they will spend the second half of their class in Lake Murray for hands on training sessions and field evaluations.

Should you notice our public safety teams at work on the lake this weekend we ask that you stay clear of their training area. Boat traffic is clearly hazard to the divers hidden beneath the water’s surface.

Glenn Hamm, Newberry County’s Water Rescue and Dive Team leader, noted, “These individuals have shown a tremendous amount of dedication by electing to spend three full days away from home in efforts to better serve the residents and visitors to their respective communities.”
