Camp Day Adventures launches
by Kevin Boozer
Staff Writer

John McGoogan is on a mission as he returns to the town where he graduated high school.

This summer, he and his wife are launching their first ever Camp Day Adventurers which contains fun-filled enrichment

activities to help children learn over the summer break.

Activities are age appropriate for children ages 5-13 years old and include academic enrichment. Camp lasts Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Breakfast, lunch and a snack are provided.

“We aspire for them to receive so much extra work in skills that they don’t miss a beat when they start back to school in the fall,” McGoogan said.

He plans to take campers on a trip every other week that the camp is open from June 4 through Aug. 3.

Trip sites include Jump Sky High in Charlotte, movies, bowling outings, skating trips, and Raise Splash Planet in Charlotte.

As of now, over 13 children are participating.

In the morning the camp includes life strategy classes and English classes.

After lunch there are Bible classes, art classes and math classes. Campers enjoy a recess break before and after their last classes of each segment of the day, too.

Other camp activities include basketball, skits and group games.

Though he lives near Rock Hill, the logistics required to host the camp necessitated that McGoogan and his wife become

temporary residents of Winnsboro again, at least for the summer.

McGoogan teaches school in Rock Hill but he and his wife will be staying here for the nine weeks camp is in session.

He enjoys being able to return to his roots and give back to this area, particularly to its children.

The camp is a Christian-based partnership with the nondenominational Jesus Christ Church which is next door on Robinson Avenue.

The idea is to expose children from this area to added enrichment and social opportunities, while nurturing their faith.

The camp is open to the public and youth can sign up until June 22.

For more information contactMcGoogan at 718-8243 or Shevonie Paige at 803-448-2457.
