E. Coli no longer found in its water system
by Kevin Boozer
Staff writer

Test results have come back on the Jenkinsville water system and according to Gregory Ginyard with the Jenkinsville Water Company there is no E. coli present in the system.

“All wells tested came back clean. Of the nine different residential samples that were taken, one sample tested for a high chloroform level,” he said.

That residence has been retested and they await instruction from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control about how to proceed.

Another sample was taken from an old mobile home on John Rice Road where the initial positive E. coli measurement occured prior to the boil water advisory being issued on Monday.

Ginyard could not confirm the cause of the earlier positive test result but speculated it could be due to an error in laboratory testing.

He reiterated that the company is complying fully with S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control in the matter.

At this point the company is waiting to hear from DHEC before any changes can be made to the boil water advisory.

DHEC must authorize the implementation and removal of a boil water advisory.

As of Thursday morning, residents are still required to boil water for one minute before cooking with it or drinking it.

Ginyard said the water test results that came back on Wednesday are now posted at the Jenkinsville Water Company office.

I've never heard of total chloroform bacteria. I think you mean coliform unless you're trying to put everyone to sleep!
