County to help Jenkinsville with emergency grant

WINNSBORO — The Fairfield County Council agreed to act as an intermediary for the Town of Jenkinsville’s application for an emergency grant at last Monday’s council meeting.The $240,000 grant would be used to lower the level of Radium in the water in the Clowney Road well in Jenkinsville.“We could have applied through the municipality of Jenkinsville,” said Jenkinsville Mayor Greg Ginyard, who was not at the council meeting and owns Jenkinsville Water Company. “But I didn’t want anyone to come back and say there was a conflict of interest.”Ginyard said the radium levels were detected in samples S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control and have a natural cause.
