Unlike petroleum, which takes a lot of money to produce and can only be used once, these energy sources are cheaper and can be used over and over again without running out.
With all of these pros, why haven’t we begun to convert our way of life from fossil fuels, and use these energy sources instead? The reason is money and basically control of the entire world.
With the oil companies in a power hungry state of mind, they are all unwilling to give up that power, even if it leads to the end of the world.
Since the industrial revolution, the world has been dependent on the processing and production of crude oil and petroleum. Petroleum and gasoline have been incorporated into every aspect of our lives. They power our cars, heat our homes, and they are the energy source of every piece of machinery other than electricity. For years, the world has enjoyed a golden age of using fossil fuels.
It’s sad to say that “golden period” is coming to an end. All of the world’s major oil deposits are drying out and the oil companies are in a frantic struggle to find more oil. While they are searching, the world is suffering. Gas prices are increasing and society is beginning to realize that there is a problem.
The solution is to convert to a new energy source that will be able to support everyone for generations to come. The answers are clear, but the greed of the oil companies is hindering our nation and the world from beginning a new, better age of energy efficiency.
Scientists and engineers have been working to find new ways to harness new energy sources. Recently, they have discovered the harmful problems that burning fossil fuels have created. Now, everyone other than the oil companies is seeking solutions to those problems and many have succeeded.
Engineers have harnessed the power of the sun with solar panels, and now they can power entire homes. These panels are so efficient that the power meters on the homes begin to rotate backwards, saving the owner hundreds of dollars in utility bills.
Recently, a group of college students in Michigan created a sports car that achieved fuel efficiency rating of 100 miles per gallon running strictly on hydrogen fuel cells. The cars that we drive now only average at least 32 miles per gallon. It’s apparent that the technology is there, but because the oil companies are buying the patents, the world may never see it in action.
Something has to be done. If society continues to allow the oil companies to keep hindering our progression for their own selfish ways, then the world is bound to fall into a state of panic.
The oil will eventually run out and our economy and the environment will dive into a depression. We have the technology. We can rebuild our world. Someone just has to take the initiative to act before time runs out.
