Harold C. Heath was elected Fairfield County School Board chairman Tuesday night. Henry Miller was chosen vice chairman and Bob Drake, secretary.
The Board decided recently to elect its officers annually, rather than every two years as has been the case in recent years.
Heath, who was elected to the Board in 2004, is a retired educator having completed 34 years of service, the last 19 in the Fairfield County School District. He held many positions during this career including teacher, head coach, assistant principal, associate athletic director, and athletic director.
The former coach was elected by a vote of four in favor and three abstentions.
“I would like to thank the School Board members for having confidence in me to elect me to this office,” Heath said. “I can promise you two things. My head size won’t increase an inch. Everything I?do will be in the best interest of the School District of Fairfield County. As chairman I?am no more and no less than other Board members. All of us are a team.”
Miller
Miller was elected to the Board in 2006 and is employed as a supervisor and an internal auditor for Invista.
He has served on the Fairfield Behavioral Health Services and the Fairfield Memorial Hospital boards.
Miller was elected to the vice chairmanship by a vote of six in favor and one abstention.
“I would just like to say,?‘thank you, Board for the vote of confidence,’” Miller said. “I?am new at this. I am going to do my best. I may make mistakes, but it will not be intentional. You can bet on that.”
Miller also praised former Chairwoman Annie McDaniel for her service.
Drake
Drake was elected to the School Board in 2002. He has worked in the banking industry for 30 years.
The veteran school board member was elected secretary by a vote of three in favor and four abstentions.
