Funeral services for Nellie Johnston Mercer, age 92, were held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, December 17, 2007, at Pope Funeral Home, conducted by The Reverend Alan Pullen. Burial followed at the First Church of the Nazarene Cemetery, Ninth Street, Winnsboro, SC. The family did receive friends from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at Pope Funeral Home on Monday prior to the service.

Mrs. Mercer passed away in Spartanburg, SC, on Friday, December 14, 2007, after a long battle with Alzheimers Disease.

Daughter of the late Charlie and Birdie Spigner Johnston, she was born on November 13, 1915, in Summitt, SC. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Spartanburg.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, William Terrell Mercer.
