Winnsboro Town Council will apply for grants from the state Budget and Control Board for six projects ranging from getting plans for a Town Clock renovation to providing grants for facade renovations for businesses on Congress, Vanderhorst and Fairfield, College, Liberty and Moultrie Streets.
Downtown development director Jill Cincotta and community development director Betsy Boulware had presented these six projects to council at a previous meeting for their consideration.
One of the criteria of these grant proposals was that none of them would be asking for an amount over $100,000, Mayor Rodger Gaddy pointed out this past Tuesday night.
One of the projects to be applied for a grant was the Old Armory renovation, which includes repair of the roof (at a cost of about $11,000), remodel of the entrance and the restrooms, and cleaning, painting and general repair.
The other grant projects are:
Fortune Springs Park update--$98,700;
Town Clock Plans and Assessments--$20,000 (Town has $10,000 for match);
Mt Zion Monumnent Walk-Greenspace Renovation--$99,800;
Downtown Signage--$100,000 (Town has $16,000 for match);
Facade Grant Program--$60,000 to hand out facade grants of $3,000 each.
