WDPS officers with the HIRT (High Intensity Response Team) served the search warrant at the house at 203 Elders Lane in Winnsboro.
Seized in the search were two cars, a 1992 Lexus and a 1999 Honda Accord, and a 1987 GMC truck, substances believed by the police to be crack and powder cocaine base, about 392 prescription pills, and a set of military-grade body armor in the form of a Kevlar vest.
The estimated street value of the drugs seized is conservatively estimated at over $10,000, said Chief Yates.
“This was the result of a several month-long investigation in our continuing war on drugs. We’ve made (undercover) drug buys at this location, and have gotten enough information about drug buys and stolen property. We secured a search warrant and carried out that search warrant,” said WDPS Chief Wayne Yates.
A release from the WDPS also stated that the Department had been watching the suspect for several months after receiving several calls from concerned citizens on the amount of traffic at the residence.
“We have found numerous quantities of different types of drugs: powder cocaine, crack cocaine and all different types of pills,” said Chief Yates.
The prescription drug seized included hydrocodone and lortab, according to police.
“We have also taken the two dogs, two pit bulls that were in the back of this house. The dogs were malnourished and they had injuries on them,” said Chief Yates.
According to police, the substances believed to be drugs were hidden in several areas around the yard, such as in an old boot and a broken mailbox.
One arrest was made at the time the search warrant was issued.
Arrested was Mike A. Rice, of 203 Elders Lane, Winnsboro.
Rice was charged with distributing crack cocaine, distributing crack cocaine within proximity of a school or playground, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute prescription drugs, and possession of narcotics equipment.
