Area businessman Swain Whitfield has been elected to the South Carolina Public Service Commission.
The Public Service Commission is charged with carring out the regulatory functions and responsibilities set forth for it by the laws and policies of the State of South Carolina.
“There is a chance that I am the first Fairfield County native to serve on the PSC,” Whitfield said. “Either way I am honored to have been elected to the PSC.”
A former member of the
Winnsboro Town Council, Whitfield is the owner of Whitfield Transportation, Inc.
He earned a B.A. degree in Industrial Geography from the University of Georgia in 1986. During his career he has had experience in four of the nine areas required for service on the Public Service Commission: electricity,, gas, water and wastewater. He has also had 22 years experience in the transportation industry.
Whitfield is a member of Centennial ARP Church in Columbia, as well as Blythewood Rotary Club, Blythewood Ducks Unlimited, Fairfield County Chamber of Commerce, South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, SC Trucking Association and Bethel Hanaberry Elementary Education Foundation.
