School board approves $34.2M budget

Fairfield County School board approved a $34.2 million budget for next year at their June 10 meeting.

The vote to approve was 4-1 with board member Annie McDaniel voting against and board members Kennedy and Johnson abstaining.

The budget is an increase of $10 million over the adjusted expenditures for the previous fiscal year, and is a decrease of $0.4 million over last year’s original budget of $34.6 million.

In other business:

  • the board approved by 4-3 vote a contract for $66,000 with Cognitive Learning Systems to provide science laboratory experiences for students at the Magnet School;

  • approved first reading of School Board policy concerning suspension of students;

  • voted 4-3 not to hear two employee grievances.
