Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 19, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home Chapel with internment in Town of Pelion Cemetery with Rev. Dewitt Harsey and Rev. Richard Powell officiating.
Pallbearers were Phillip Harsey, Dwight Harsey, Devere Harsey, John Melvin Harsey, Larry Liston Harsey and Tony Harsey.
Born in Winnsboro, SC, he was a son of the late John Otis Harsey and Luna Mae Starnes Harsey. He served in the Air Force in the Korean War. While in service he was transport aircraft maintenance technician. He was self-employed with Harsey's Moving Company.
He was a member of Fairfield Swangers Square Dance Club, and Good Sams Club of Fairfield County. He enjoyed clogging, square dancing and antique collecting.
Surviving are his son, Randy Harsey of Gilbert; daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon H. Wright (Alvin) of Gilbert; Vonda H. Jenkins (Walter) of Gilbert: grandchildren: Lacy Harsey, Hunter Wright, Miki Wright, Kayela and Graham Jenkins; preceded in death by brothers, Murphy L. Harsey and James A. Harsey; and an aunt, Maddie Harsey Allen.
The family did receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home, other times at the home of his daughter, Sharon Wright.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to: Gilbert-Summit Volunteer Fire Department or V.A. Augusta Hospital c/o Spinal Cord Division. Milton Shealy Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
