The school district of Fairfield County has been conducting multiple parent meetings over the summer to create a flow of information to parents and to receive input from parents.
Parent specialist with the district, Yolande Montgomery, offered parents at the meetings an opportunity to give written feedback on assessment testing.
Component II of the handout was concerned with what percentage of the assessment test should be used as a grade. Currently 20% is the recommended amount but parents may give their suggestions.
A place for feedback, concerning different avenues of communication, was also on the Parental Input Activity sheet.
According to Montgomery, parents who were not able to attend any of the meetings can pick up an input form at the front desk of the school district office. She will compile all the data received to make her report.
Other information given at the meetings included a presentation by Michael Mew about Edline, an on-line portal for parents to log on to their child’s school website to view grades and attendance.
Mew also talked about the new phone system that will allow parents the ability to leave voice mail for teachers.
Mrs. Raye O’Neal Boyd addressed the need to keep up with the summer reading requirements.
This summer’s last Parental Involvement meeting will be Thursday, July 24 at 6 pm at Fairfield Central High School. The Back to School Rally will also be at the high school Saturday, August 9 at 8:30 am.
Other topics of interest at the parent meetings will be addressed in future issues of the Herald Independent.
