Another school year is just around the corner for Fairfield County students, and the Fairfield County School District is already drumming up interest in education with this weekend’s Back to School Rally.

In a letter to parents, district parenting specialist Yolande Montgomery wrote: ‘As we prepare for the upcoming academic year, there will be new friends to meet, new books to read, new skills to master and most importantly the addition of three new schools here in our area. ‘The goal of this district is to continue to expand educational opportunities for students, and in keeping with that vision we are excited to introduce the Fairfield Magnet School, Fairfield Elementary School and The Gordon Odyssey Academy to the students in our school district. The new schools as well as our remaining schools are geared toward increasing student achievement, providing resources to address student needs, and improving and increasing parental, business, and community involvement.

‘We want to promote the concept of “children first” here in this district and are working hard to put resources in place that will only improve student performance and enhance student learning. We are asking for your support and commitment as we move forward.

‘In an effort to welcome back our students, we would like to extend an invitation for you to attend our Back to School Rally on August 9th, 2008 from 8:00a.m. to 12:00p.m. at Fairfield Central High School. This will be an event filled with learning, refreshments and door prizes for the community as we prepare for a great 2008-2009 school year. Please join us as we kick off the new school year.’
