The Fairfield County Sheriffs Department needs the community’s help in solving a murder and robbery that happened over fourteen years ago.
The murder of Maxie Floyd may be in the Cold Case file but Lieutenant Greg Boney has not forgotten about Mr. Floyd or his family, who would like to see the two men who murdered Floyd, in the commission of a robbery, come to justice.
As Lieutenant of Investigations for Fairfield County Sheriffs Department, Boney say they “never close an unsolved case.”
According to the sheriff’s department, “on July 7, 1994 at approximately 11:30 a.m. the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office received a call in reference to an armed robbery which had just occurred at Floyd’s Grocery on Highway 21 in Ridgeway, SC, Fairfield County. When deputies arrived they found the owner, Maxie Floyd dead from apparent gun shot wounds. A customer (who) was in the store at the time was also shot, but survived.”
The first suspect was originally described as follows:
Black Male shorter than 5’7”; 170 lbs; 40 - 50 years of age; stocky build with partial grey hair and mustache.
The second suspect was originally described as follows:
Black Male 5’0” to 5’4”; 130-140 lbs; mid to late teens.
It is important to point out that since this occurred 14 years ago, Suspect One would now be around 54-64 years old and his appearance may have changed.
Suspect Two would now be approximately 30 years of age and may look considerably different than he did in 1994.
The drawing provided at the time may still help to identify these suspects.
The sheriff’s department says that there is a Crime Stopper reward of up to $1,000 offered to anyone who has any information leading to the arrest of the subjects responsible for this murder.
Anonymous tips may be given by calling Crime Stoppers at 888-CRIME-SC.
