Annual Keep Fairfield Beautiful event celebrates community efforts

Keep Fairfield Beautiful celebrated it’s 7th year of planting community pride.

The celebration took place Thursday, December 4th at the Gordon Memorial United Methodist Church in Winnsboro.

The program was to recognize individuals, businesses, organizations and sponsors who helped in the continuing efforts of Keep Fairfield Beautiful to eliminate litter and beautify Fairfield county in 2008.

Mary Urias of Keep Fairfield Beautiful presented the recognintion awards to many members of the community after a slide show of pictures recounting the years accomplishments.

Among those recognized, the 2008 Adopt a Highway of the Year was presented to members of Longtown Presbyterian Church.

Others recognized included Fairfield Intermediate School, Celmson Extension Service, Washington Street Baptist Youth Group and Bonnie Myers.

For their continued support and clean up efforts, Ben Arnold Sunbelt, Davis Anderson, Fairfield County Council, Town of Winnsboro, the Herald Independent, and Winnsboro Arms Apartments.

The Pine Tree Playhouse was recognized for hosting a litter-free Shakefest event.

Harriett Sheppard, Alice Rice, Carla Young, Ltnt. Jimmy Joyner and Bryan Holmes were recognized for their efforts and assistance in the Junior Master Gardner’s program and with the 4H2O camp. Todd Rainwater was recognized for his service on the Board.

Walmart received recognition for the donation of trees for the Avenue of Trees and the Fairfield County Chamber was recognized for their sponsorship.

For assistance with the tree planting, the WHS class of 1978 as well as Bryan Holmes and Darryl Brown of FFC Recreation were commended.

Terry and Steve Vickers were also recognized for their efforts with the tree panting as well as their assistance with the repainting of the Welcome Sign.

Cpl. Melissa Cooper and Cpl. Sherry Alexander of the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office were commended for their presentation on grafitti to concerned citizens.

Andrew Holmes was honored by being named Outstannding young Volunteer of 2008.

Urias herself was honored and presented a certificate from the Board of Keep Fairfield Beautiful for her “tireless and continuing work.”
