Funeral services for Ruth Bass Dove, age 81, were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2008 at Stephen Greene Baptist Church, conducted by Reverend Michael Cockrell, Reverend Bill Porter and Reverend Jerry Wolff. Burial followed in Stephen Greene Memorial Cemetery. The family did receive visitors the previous Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Pope Funeral Home.

Mrs. Dove died November 26, 2008 at Heartland Hospice in Columbia, SC. She was the wife for 61 years of Clarence L. Dove, Jr.

She was born in Bishopville, SC on February 24, 1927, the daughter of William and Lula Ray Bass. Mrs. Dove retired as a bookkeeper for Southern Bank and Trust and was an active member of Stephen Greene Baptist Church where she assisted with children’s Sunday School and was a member of the Sue Vernon Circle.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Dove is survived by two sons, Billy Dove and his wife, Dianne, of Winnsboro, Michael Dove, of Fort Mill; one daughter, Barbara R. Dove, of Columbia; one sister, Betty Bledsoe and her husband, Bob, of Niceville, FL; four grandchildren, Bill, Dana, Ashley and Allison; and four great grandchildren, Ethan, Emily Jane, Jordan and Preston.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Bennie Bass, Clyde Bass, and Fred, Bass, and four sisters, Annie Bell Gardener, Marie Gladden, Maude Gladden, and Macy Brown.

Pallbearers for the service were Bill Dove, Daniel Bonds, Patrick Bonds, Cliff Collins, Guerry Hensley, Tommy Humphries, Mark Humphries, and Roy Lesher.

Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice and Stephen Greene Baptist Church.

Pope Funeral Home served the Dove family.
