The Lady Griffins took on the Lady Diamond Hornets of Lower Richland this past Tuesday at home. The final score was in favor of the visiting team, 71-22.
The Lady Diamond Hornets won the opening tip-off and basically never looked back. They forced a few turnovers which ultimately led to some points on the board .With 5:14 left on the in the first quarter, the score was 11-0. And minutes later, the Lady Diamond Hornets turned the ball over due to a traveling call. Within a few minutes remaining in the quarter, LaQuinta Guinyard found Nikki Craig down low for the basket. The score was then 15-2. But the Lady Diamond Hornets increased their lead to 22-2 to end the first quarter.
The Lady Diamond Hornets began the second quarter where they left off during the first quarter, scoring another basket. Then moments later, Nikki Craig answered back with a basket for the Lady Griffins. The score was then 24-4. The Lady Griffins then forced a Lady Diamond Hornets turnover. But with 4:10 left on the clock, the score was 29-4, followed by a Lady Griffins turnover back down court.
The Diamond Hornets were able to convert some points off the Lady Griffins mistake. A few drives later, the Lady Griffins weren’t able to prevent the Lady Diamond Hornets from scoring. But back down court, Nikki Craig shot attempt was block and the Griffins weren’t able to score any points throughout the quarter. The score at half time was 37-4.
Nikki Craig answered back for the Griffins to begin the third quarter. The score was 39-6 and with 6:58 left on the clock. Afterwards, Coach Richard Holt was called for technical foul. Nikki Craig was fouled on her shot and had to earn her points from the free throw line. She missed both shots. And with 3:50 remaining in the quarter, the Lady Diamond Hornets increased their led bigger 50-6. Shateal Reynolds was fouled on the shot with less than two minutes left on the clock. She made both free throws. The Lady Griffins got on the board once more after LaQuinta Guinyard went the distance for the layup down court. With the final buzzer of the third quarter, Keneitra Turner was fouled on her shot. She made one of two free throws. The score at the end of the quarter was 58-9.
The Lady Diamond Hornets turned the ball over to begin the fourth quarter. Jakeisha Crumpton shot the jumper from down town but it was no good. She was able to get her own rebound. Andrea Holmes came away with the shot but was fouled. She wasn’t able to make her free throws. The score was 60-9 and 6:15 left on the clock. Moments later, LaQuinta Guinyard found Nikki Craig down low for the basket. The score was then 60-11. During the Lady Griffins next offensive drive, Maura Wood went up for the shot but was fouled. She tacked on both attempts. With 2:47 remaining in the fourth quarter, Nikki Craig scored off the Lady Griffins inbounds play. Before long, LaQuinta Guinyard tacked on a pair of free throws, for the Lady Griffins, followed by a jumper from Danielle Broome. Although TyResha McKinstry nailed the jumper from down town for the Lady Griffins but the Lady Diamond Hornets were a little too much for the Lady Griffins. The final score was 71-22.
The Lady Griffins scorers were Nikkik Craig with 10pts, TyResha McKinstry with 3pts, LaQuinta Guinyard, Shateal Reynolds, and Danielle Broome & Maura Wood all with 2pts each.

The Griffins came out and played like guys on a mission. The final score was in favor of the home team, 73-53.
The Griffins won the opening tip-off and Anthony Craig found Calvin Bouknight for the basket. But the Diamond Hornets answered back with a three pointer. And with 5:36 left on the clock, Kendrick Anderson went coast to coast for the basket plus the foul. The free throw didn’t count due to a lane violation called against the Griffins. The score was 5-4 after the Diamond Hornets answered back. Anthony Craig made both free throw attempts before the Griffins turned the ball over on their next offensive drive. With 3:30 left on the clock, Shaquille Crumpton, found Marquis Robinson down low for the basket and the foul. The Griffins increased their lead, 15-7. The score was 15-11 at the end of the first quarter.
With 7:19 left in the second quarter, Michael Trapp stepped behind the free throw line. He made both free throw attempts. And in return, Lower Richland scored on their next offensive drive. Kendrick Anderson went all the way down court for the basket but it was no good. Marquis Robinson was there for the rebound and out back. Minutes later, Michael Trapp found Anthony Craig for the deuce and the foul. He completed the three point play. The score was then 22-13. The Diamond Hornets turned the ball over followed by a missed shot from the Griffins. The Diamond Hornets scored once again back down court. Dominique Weldon pushed the ball down court and found Michael Trapp who drove to the basket but the shot was no good. Lower Richland scored on their next trip down court. Minutes later, McKendrix Thompson found Anthony Craig going to the basket but he was fouled on the shot. He made his free throws and the Griffins increased their lead. Marquis Robinson answered back for the Griffins. The score at the end of the second quarter was 37-28.
With 6:21 left in the third quarter, the Diamond Hornets turned the ball over. McKendrix Thompson found Kendrick Anderson for the jumper from down town. The Griffins then turned the ball over minutes later, but still maintained their lead, 40-31. Michael Trapp answered back for the Griffins. And with 2:28 left on the clock, Dominique Weldon found Marquis Robinson for the basket down low. Moments later, Anthony Craig hit the jumper from the top of the key for two. But Lower Richland answered back. Kerry Dunlap answered back for the Griffins, and the score at the end of the third quarter, 54-37.
The Griffins continued the defensive pressure was scoring offense throughout the fourth quarter.
The leading scorers were Marquis Robinson with 19pts, Anthony Craig with 16pts, & Kendrick Anderson with 15pts.
