On Sunday, April 1, Stephen Greene Baptist Church recognized a very special hero during their worship service. Pastor Mickey Cockrell and his wife Bea (AWANA Commander), presented Noah Sendlenski with an award, a fireman’s hat and a Bible for his courage shown during a house fire on March 26. Noah was asleep in his bed when he smelled smoke. He got out of the bed and went around the fire to get his dad, sister and two cousins. His action saved their lives and the lives of the neighbors in the next apartment.
The certificate was presented for exemplifying bravery and compassion during an emergence situation on March 26, and read, in part:
“Courage is being brave enough to do what you should do even when you are afraid!
“’Be strong and brave. Do not be terrified. Do not lose hope. I am the Lord your God. I will be with you everywhere you go.’ Joshua 1:9 (NIV)
“When you are afraid, remember God is with you!”
Noah is a member of Stephen Greene Baptist Church’s Sunday School, Children’s Church and AWANA. He is an inspiration to all who know him. His dad said that when Noah was saying his prayers on Monday night, he thanked God for waking him up and helping him to save his dad, sister and cousins.
