Lacy Michelle Harsey of Columbia, S.C. and Wesley James Melvin of Greer, S.C. were united in marriage on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at College Place United Methodist Church in Columbia. The 6 o’clock ceremony was performed by the Rev. Walter Carrington Ballenger III of Gordon Memorial United Methodist Church in Winnsboro, S.C. A reception immediately followed at the South Carolina State Museum.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. Paul Randall Harsey of Gilbert, S.C. and Ms. Susan Harper Mincey of Jenkinsville, S.C. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Geraldine Trotter Porter and the late Mr. William Burnice Porter Jr. of Winnsboro, S.C., the late Mr. Vernon Lavon Harsey of Columbia, S.C., Mr. L.C. Harper of Great Falls, S.C., and Mr. and Mrs. Eathel Ray Hammons Jr. of Winnsboro, S.C. She is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of South Carolina where she also obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Terrell Sims Melvin of Winnsboro, S.C. He is the grandson of Mrs. Alma Steading Harris and the late Mr. Burr Calvert Harris of Pomaria, S.C and the late Mr. and Mrs. Wesley John Melvin of Winnsboro, S.C. He is a graduate of Clemson University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Packaging Science and a Masters degree in Business Administration. He is currently employed by Sterling Contract Packaging in Spartanburg, S.C. as the Package Engineering Manager.
The bride was given in marriage by her father, Mr. Paul Randall Harsey. Matron of honor was Mrs. Jessica McCullough Webb. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Cassidy Cooper Branham, Mrs. Elizabeth Schachner Coleman, Mrs. Nicole Collins Hunter, Miss Lucy Caroline Ladd, Miss Brittany Anne Melvin, sister of the groom, Dr. Sara Clyburn Reid and Mrs. Jennifer Caldwell Sharpe. Flower girls were Miss Lilly Grace Branham, Miss Addison Taylor Collins, Miss Ella Faith Laney and Miss Sara Claire Reid. Program attendants were Miss Meredyth Dean Lyles and Miss Brittni Carla Smith.
Best man was Mr. Harry Terrell Sims Melvin, father of the groom. Groomsmen were Mr. Michael Avery Anderson, Mr. Roger Nicolas Godley, Mr. Brad Michael McIntyre, cousin of the groom, Mr. William Frederick Pope Jr., Mr. Daniel Spencer Rikard, Mr. Martin Thomas Timms, Mr. Brock DeBaun Williams, cousin of the groom, Mr. Fritz Douglas Williams, cousin of the groom and Mr. Wesley Bradford Williams, cousin of the groom. Ushers were Mr. Travis Lane Brown, Mr. Justin Tanner Ervin, Mr. Kristopher Ryan Fogle and Mr. Jacob Hunter Wright, cousin of the bride. Ring bearers were Mr. Calvert Lee Smith and Mr. Skylar Nolan Velasquez, both cousins of the groom.
Greeting guests as they arrived at the reception were Mrs. Anne Melvin Lee and Ms. Kathryn Melvin Williams, both aunts of the groom.
Mr. and Mrs. Melvin will reside in Greer, S.C. after the ceremony. The groom has planned a surprise honeymoon trip for May, 2012.
