Once again, the Fairfield County School Board is letting us know they plan to spend more of our taxpayer money, without asking. Since when is the school board a medical insurance company or a medical provider? In the April 24 edition, Board Chairwoman Andrea Harrison stated emphatically that money should not be an issue (in regards to paying for drug counseling or rehabilitation). Furthermore, she said, “We have the money here in Fairfield and we are going to unleash the rein that we have on our children’s money.”
Now can you understand why the school board spends more money every year, and doesn’t ask for approval? Several years ago, I asked for a copy of the current budget, and what I received was a two- or three-sentence note from County Council saying they had approved the budget request. Why are we near the top in spending per student, but near the bottom in graduations and test results? We need to get some people on the board who will use our money effectively to education our children.
