An investigation is continuing a Saturday vehicle fire.

Akeemia Young, 23, of 571 Ashford St., Chester, who owned the blue Jeep Liberty, told Fairfield County deputies that the vehicle broke down on her way home and so she left it on the side of the road in the Blackstock area.

She contacted law enforcement to tell them her vehicle was missing from the incident location. The burned vehicle already had been towed from the area by the time of the owner’s call.

She also told law enforcement that her vehicle had been worked on two weeks prior to the fire.

The complainant who reported the fire told authorities there was no vehicle information available to check ownership at the time the fire was reported.

The fire appeared to have started near the gas tank, according to reports.

Captain Brad Douglas with the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Department said that the Lebanon Fire Department followed standard protocol by notifying law enforcement of any vehicle fire.

The vehicle did burn, but investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire.

Possible theories include the vehicle overheating or arson, but at this time the investigation is ongoing.
