The Zion Hill Prevention Save the Kids 17th Annual Back to School Bash, took a new feel this year as it was also a time to pay respects to the amazing lady who started it all, the late Tillie Armstrong.
In 1995, Armstrong started this event in the yard of her home as a way to help local children of the county to get the school supplies they needed in order to be successful in school.
The event became so large that a few years later she had to move it to the old Armory to accommodate the number of people.
Armstrong’s memories and her passion for doing good live on in the kindheartedness of her children, grandchildren, friends and family.
This year’s event, although serving less than last year, supplied school supplies to 685 students in the community.
Event organizer Edwinda Armstrong said, ”It was overwhelming at times but very successful.”
The family and the organizers are thankful for the community support as they continue the legacy of Tillie Armstrong.
