Palmetto Health’s office of community health education screening prevention and disease, whose director is Vince Ford, has been offering free health screenings during the summer in Richland, Lexington and Fairfield counties.

The Real Men Summer Health Screening Program focused on the theme of “know your number,” educating the men who attended on the importance of knowing their blood pressure, cholesterol, body mass index and weight.

The screening also included prostate and diabetes examinations as well.

Each man who participated in the screening received around $500 in free health services and a free T-shirt.

Screening participant Eugene Holmes said, “I have a dynamic primary health care provider, but still took the time to come out this morning for a little extra care.”

So many men don’t have a primary health care provider because of the lack of insurance, and even those men with insurance often don’t seek the care they should.

The staff at Palmetto Health reported 92 percent success rate for this event and said that this was one of the most successful screenings that they have had.
