The 2012 Fairfield County School District Teacher of the Year is Sara Tucker, a fifth grade teacher at Fairfield Magnet School.
Tucker, who is a native of Ridgeway, has always wanted to be an educator.
She completed her undergraduate studies at Charleston Southern University in Charleston, and then went on to get her Masters of Education in divergent learning from Columbia College.
Most recently she has completed her Masters of Education in curriculum and instruction at Winthrop University.
When asked how it feels to be honored she said, “This is a humbling experience.”
Tucker was so grateful for the support of her school, students and teachers in helping her receive such a high honor.
Over the course of her eight year career Tucker taught at Geiger Elementary were she started out and stayed for three years.
From there she moved on to Kershaw County, teaching at Camden Elementary for two years.
Now entering her third year at Fairfield Magnet school, she feels, “All students are capable of learning and are expected to provide exceptional work.”
Though she knows that each student is different, her passion for teaching has led her to set her goal to make sure that each student has a chance to learn by providing them all the help she can.
