The Town of Winnsboro approved a resolution that allows the town to participate in the creation of a regional water authority
The resolution would also appoint representatives to the charter committee and handle a capital donation of $5,000.
The resolution goes on to say the “council finds that reliance on the Mill Creek Reservoir, the Rion Quarry, and Sand Creek as the sources for raw water for the Town of Winnsboro’s treatment plant can no longer provide reliable water to the citizens of the town and meet the increasing demands from wholesale and retail customers of the town.”
This means that by forming the water authority each water entity will have a seat at the table to help secure the raw water sources that are need for the county.
The resolution continues with a few more details of what is to come next, which will likely be the creation of the charter committee.
This is a big step as so many have concerns over the water in Fairfield County.
In keeping with the water talk, council addressed the drought proclamation that was signed Feb. 21 and approved an amendment to the proclamation.
The amendment removed the Blythewood Water Distribution System from the water restrictions, given by the relief of purchased water from the City of Columbia.
Residents in Fairfield County are still under restrictions to continue to reduce water use by 30 percent.
