Newberry College head men’s basketball coach Dave Davis is pleased to announce the addition of an exhibition date at Purdue University to the Wolves’ 2012-13 slate.
The Wolves and Boilermakers will play in Mackey Arena on Saturday, Nov. 3 at a time to be announced.
This will be the highest profile opponent Newberry has ever played in basketball action, and the first time the scarlet and gray have faced off against a Big Ten squad. Purdue advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2011-12 and finished with a 22-13 record.
This is a special game for Davis, as Purdue head coach Matt Painter was his assistant coach at Barton College in the 1994-95 season.
“It is an incredible opportunityfor our young men to play in one of the greatest atmospheresin college basketball in Mackey Arena,” Davis said. “My former assistant Matt Painter has done and incredible job rebuilding Purdue into a national power and we are grateful beyond belief he is giving our Newberry basketball program this opportunity.”
