Copper thefts continue to occur around Fairfield County with a recent incident that took place in Ridgeway.
On Sept. 1 the Kennedy store on Highway 34 East reported copper wire had been stolen from its air conditioner unit. Captain Brad Douglas with the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Department said the manner and circumstances surrounding the theft are consistent with other recent copper thefts in the county.
In this case, he said the business had not been used much recently.
Douglas estimated that the theft could have been as much as a week old when it was reported.
“We continue to receive tips and are following up on them but nothing has led to us finding the person responsible right now,” Douglas said.
The sheriff’s department urges residents to be remain vigilant of their surroundings and to report any suspicious behavior to them by calling 635-4141.
