Joining the joint water authority, town signage and contractual matters were just a few of the topics during the Ridgeway town council meeting last week.
The meeting started off on a much lighter note with the recognition of Fairfield County School District Teacher of the Year Sara Tucker.
Tucker who currently teaches at Fairfield Magnet School is a native of Ridgeway and former teacher at Geiger Elementary School.
Also recognized during the meeting was the 2012 Citizen of the Year for Ridgeway.
This year the honor went to Virginia Lacy, who has chaired the Historical Cultural Committee since it began in 2006.
The business part of the meeting began with the final reading of Ordinance 3-1010: FOG. This ordinance passed its second reading and will control the way restaurants dispose of their fats, oil, and grease.
The council agreed to cash in a certificate of deposit from the Pig on the Ridge committee to purchase town signs.
After reviewing the three bids that were secured for the signs council voted to allow Sign-A-Rama to produce and install the new signs.
After a brief executive session, the council announced they will be sending the agreed upon $5,000 to join the joint water authority.
Although there is much more discussion to come on the water authority, this is the Town of Ridgeway’s way of securing their seat at the table.
Each of the water companies in the county that will be joining the joint water authority have been asked to invest this money to start the process for the joint water and sewer authority. The funds will be used to cover the legal cost for creating the authority.
The final announcement for the evening was council’s agreement to hire another part-time police officer for the town to help increase patrols and safety.
