PROSPERITY — Annie Pauline Ellis, 89, died Thursday, Sept.20, 2012, at J. F. Hawkins Nursing Home.

Born on June 13, 1923, in Scotia, she was the daughter of the late James Lamar and Pauline Shuman Ellis. She was a World War II Navy veteran. She retired from the U.S. Department of Defense and later worked for the Metro in Washington, D.C. She graduated from George Washington University and did volunteer work for the Kennedy Center and the Washington National Cathedral. Ms. Ellis was a member of Foundry Methodist Church in Washington, D.C. and First Baptist Church of Newberry.

Ms. Ellis is survived by brothers, Marion P. Ellis of Leawood, Kan. and William E. Ellis of Prosperity and a number of nieces and nephews.

Committal services with military honors will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, at First Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Harmon. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 1020 Boundary Street, Newberry, SC 29108 or to the Washington National Cathedral Earthquake Relief, 3101 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20016.
