WILLISTON — Nellie “Grannie B.” Brinson of Williston, formerly of Winnsboro, went to be with her Lord that she so dearly loved on Tuesday, November 13, 2012. She was 95.
Nellie was born April 29, 1917 in Rabon’s Cross Road in Kershaw County, a daughter of the late English and Della Branham.
She was married to the late Alton Brinson for 58 years. The couple made their home in Winnsboro, where Nellie was employed by the Uniroyal Mill for 25 years.
She was a very devout Christian and a longtime member of Weslyan Church of Winnsboro, where she taught Sunday School for many years and was also a member of and held all offices in the W.M.S.
She also taught Sunday School to the residents of the Ridgeway nursing home.
After Alton passed away, Nellie continued to live in Winnsboro until July of 2003 when she moved to Williston and became a member of the First Baptist Church of Williston and a resident of Laurel Baye Assisted Living.
She was a very active eight-year resident of Laurel Baye and was always uplifting to others.
Nellie loved playing bingo and lovingly gave her winnings to her church.
For her 95th birthday, a celebration was held to honor her and was attended by the six generations of her family along with a multitude of friends and the residents and staff of Laurel Baye.
Nellie is survived by two daughters, Loretta (Rita) Rhodus (Bill) of Williston, and Lillian Yarborough (the late Thomas Yarborough) of Winnsboro, Grandchildren Tommy Yarborough (Mary Ann) of Pennsboro, W. V., Billy Rhodus (Pat) of Barnwell, Susan Derrick (Stan) of Irmo, Nancy Johns (Richard) of Cleveland, Tenn., Mike Rhodus (Debbie) of Hickory, N.C., and Cindy Bell (Mark) of Suwanee, Ga.
Also, Sammy Allen and Peggy Allen Mushkin, who were lifelong neighbors and extended family, nineteen great grandchildren, twenty two great, great, grandchildren, five great, great, great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Ernest, Stanley and Heyward Branham and two sisters, Lucy B. Allen and Ruby Hendrix.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 17 at Folk Funeral Home in Williston, with visitation immediately following the service.
A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Winnsboro.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Williston Elevator Fund, 111 West Main St., Williston, S.C. 29853.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to the staff and caregivers of Laurel Baye for their tireless love and care of “Grannie B.” during her eight-year stay, and a very special thank you to Activities Director Laticia Saxon.
