WINNSBORO — A body discovered by a tree trimming crew on Saturday, November 10 has been positively identified as that of William Pound, Jr.

SLED laboratory analysis confirmed the body found off Interstate 77 in eastern Fairfield County was that of Pound.

William “Billy” Pound Jr., wrecked in the area two years ago but his body was never located until recently.

On Nov. 30, 2010, Pound’s wrecked vehicle was located on Old River Road between I-77 and Highway 21 in Fairfield County.

According to online missing persons records at www.ncmissingpersons.org/2010/12/, the vehicle appeared to have flipped once and came to rest on its hood in a roadside ditch.

Though blood and hand prints indicated an injured victim had left the vehicle of his own power, no vehicle occupant was ever found.

It is hoped the Pound family will find some closure now that Pound’s remains have been found.
