WINNSBORO – The Lady Griffins basketball team finished last year’s season 17-6, placing them second in the conference. The team is returning nine out of 12 players from last season including the starting five.

The Fairfield Central High team used the summer to attend two camps and performed well at each.

Head Coach Cedrick Simpson said he has a good feeling about the upcoming season and his second year with the Griffins. Although a young team with only three seniors, the Lady Griffins are ranked fourth coming into the season behind Bishop England, Cheraw and Keenan.

This is the first time the team has been ranked fourth in awhile and it is a great honor, Simpson adding that his team might have had a month off since last season between training conditioning and camps. The team also spends time together off the court with cookouts and other event to promote teamwork.

“The key to the success of the team has been the support from the parents,” he said. “I have a great group of parents who support me and the team. They respect my vision, I know I have the best parents in the state of South Carolina.”

The season for the Lady Griffins has already kicked off. Their next game is Dec. 7 home against Greatfalls.
