County Council returned from their annual trip to Washington, D.C. and immediately got down to business.

On the Monday of their return, March 16, Council held a worksession to go over the Stimulus Package and begin narrowing their focus to grants and programs that would most benefit Fairfield County.

Council reviewed and highlighted programs that would be appropriate for the County to apply for, and identified programs that they wanted to convey to other agencies that might be beneficial.

Some of the programs Council identified to be “put on the radar” for further scrutiny included grants for transportation, an Airport Improvement program, Firefighter Assistance Grants, Broadband Technology, Rural Community Facilities, and many others.

Council member Kamau Marcharia was interested in the Rural Business Program being offered.

With the possible increase in the population of western Fairfield County, Marcharia feels that people interested in developing business in that section of the county could benefit from the loans and grants being offered through that program.

The County and Council have a long road ahead of them as the attempt to identify grants and programs they may qualify for and that will be most beneficial to the County as a whole.

Council Chairman David Brown said, “Hopefully things are improving. We will continue to do what we can for the betterment of the county.”
