WINNSBORO — The Lady Eagles of Richard Winn soared to a 9-2 lead and never looked back in a 20-point victory over Spartanburg Day on Tuesday night.

The Eagles had a commanding lead at the half thanks to their defense that allowed only six first half points.

By contrast, RWA tallied 23 points in the opening half. A 10-4 run in the third quarter put this one on ice for the Griffins who were outmatched in the region game.

The Eagles held Griffins’ sophomore Ansley DeVore to just 27 percent shooting. They also forced 25 Griffin turnovers on the night, a tribute to their hustle and team defense.

Junior Carson Justice led the Eagles with 17 points. The Eagles improve to 18-1 on the season and remain unbeaten in SCISA region play, while the loss drops Spartanburg Day to 11-6.

RWA will head back to Spartanburg on Friday to take on Spartanburg Christian, a team they defeated 34-22 back on Jan. 8 in home action. Tip off for the middle school game is at 4 p.m. with two varsity games to follow.
