FAIRFIELD COUNTY — A coalition networking luncheon was held last month at the Midland Technical College Quick Job Center. The luncheon brought together a diverse group of community leaders, church leaders and concerned citizens. The meeting was organized by the office of the County Community Liaison Jackie Workman.
The meeting included representatives from the Department of Probation Parole and Pardon Services, Department of Social Services, Midland Technical College Educational Opportunity Center, and SC Works. Each service was given a chance to outline what they have to offer to the community and what it is that they need from the community in terms of support.
The main focus of the meeting was to make sure that the church community knew what services the county had to offer. There is a concern over the lack of support that the Midland Technical College Quick Job Center is receiving from the community. Many students and adults who are unemployed are not taking advantage of the services as well as the services that are provides by SC Works.
The group spent time discussing how to promote the services that are local in the county and the best method seems to be by word of mouth within the church community. The group plans to meet again to see how well going back into the community and sharing the information worked.
