WINNSBORO — A talented group of students was recognized at the February meeting of the Fairfield County School District board of trustees.
Students recognized for perfect scores on PASS testing included Thomas Few for math, Fairfield Elementary School; Victoria Lightfoot for English, Fairfield County Magnet School for Math and Science; and Shanna Thompson for English, McCrorey-Liston.
Junior Scholars from Fairfield Middle School were recognized by the Olde English Consortium. The scholars were Rodney Gibson, Vernon Kennedy Jr. and Raven Tucker.
Seventh-grader Trace Swann was recognized as the district’s Arbor Day Essay Contest Winner. He also was lauded for top scores on standardized testing.
Takiya Willingham, a student at Fairfield County Magnet School for Math and Science, was recognized for receiving first place at the Junior Beta Club Convention art competition. She was honored for her acrylic painting of peaches.
Titorya Armstrong was the 2012 Prudential Spirit of Community Award Winner. The award recognized academic excellence but also community outreach and involvement. Board members and the superintendent congratulated her parents for nurturing a desire to serve.
Fairfield County Magnet School for Math and Science students who participated in the Midlands Math Meet at the Midlands Technical College Airport campus were recognized, including VicTorry Brice, Maddie Garner, Jamara Green, Janelle Green, Lamar Richards, Javan Scott and Talib Willingham. Willingham’s group won first place in the Jeopardy competition.
School district Superintendent J.R. Green also recognized the varsity boys and girls basketball teams from FCHS, congratulating them on making the playoffs. He noted that both teams, though they lost recently, had some excellent talent returning for next year.
