WINNSBORO — Captain Brad Douglas with the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Department recently presented a program for the Winnsboro Rotary Club.
Rotarian Nancy Coleman asked Douglas to speak to the group because of the wide-spread interest in school safety. Douglas discussed how the sheriff’s department had prepared to assist schools in the event of an emergency incident such as armed intruder.
Douglas used recent high profile school shootings to explain what has been learned to improve school safety and save lives. Law enforcement and school officials have engaged in training to protect themselves and the public from acts of violence on students.
He said through training, greater awareness and updated security measures to buildings and grounds, the possibility of such tragedies will be reduced. He said the schools in Fairfield County have worked closely with the sheriff’s department to ensure the safety of the students,
