WINNSBORO — Maybe they ate some bad peanuts before the game, but whatever happened, the hits just kept coming against the Fairfield Central pitching staff Tuesday night.
The Pelion Panthers, straight from South Carolina peanut country, pounded out hit after hit against eighth-grader Stanley McManus, who wowed the crowd with a no-hitter this month. Compton Walker was one of few brights spot for the Griffins, going 2-4 at the plate.
The Panthers just had too much Hawkins in them in this one for the Griffins liking.
Pitcher Zack Hawkins improved to 4-1 with the win and helped himself at the dish, getting hits in three of five at bats. Other leading Pelion hitters included Mark Kneece (2-4) and Dylan Fairey (2-2).
The Griffins played Camden in home action on Thursday and hoped to cut off a two-game losing streak.
