According to the results, which will be certified this Friday, Maggie Holmes received 81 votes and Margaret Polly Parker received 120 votes.
Voter turnout was a disappointing 10%. There were 1,899 voters eligible to vote in the election and 202 people voted.
Director of Registration and Elections Debbie Stidham said the low turnout may have been due to the upcoming holidays, people on vacation, and the summer temperatures that may have kept people indoors.
Following the reporting of the results, Parkers first comments were “let’s see if we can do something for the children. That’s what’s important.”
Parker, a cancer survivor, said “the Good Lord left me here for something, and that’s why I ran. There is something that I know something about, and that’s the children in the schools.
“And so, I’m on a journey,” she said.
