Even before Dr. Ingram's accident, the school board began dismantling her staff by not renewing the contracts of her organization's key members. In her absence, the school board replaced the person she put in charge. Under this leader, district employees were ordered not to communicate with Dr. Ingram. Her district email was eliminated and her Blackberry taken away from her. The locks at the district office were changed.
Her key staff members have now been escorted off district property.
Dr. Ingram's doctor has not released her to return to work.
Only with help from her family and sheer determination was a not-fully-recovered Dr. Ingram able to handle the interview process back in her home state of Alabama.
It seems the board was trying to thwart her chances of getting that job. The school board voted to restrict employees and other board members from even speaking to the Montgomery school board.
What's going on here reminds me of an abusive husband, one that criticizes everything the wife does, beats her, but doesn't want anyone else to have her either. Dr. Ingram is trying to do what any enlightened victim would do - leave! But like the abusive spouse, this board wants to destroy her instead of letting her go. It's sick.
Elected officials are supposed to be leaders in our community. Is this leadership? School board members should be setting an example for our young people. Is this the example we want them to follow? Is this really the way we want our county to treat people who come here to work and to make a difference? As a long-time citizen of this county, I don't think so.
If we all let the school board know we find this behavior disgusting, maybe, just maybe, we can make them think twice. Call your school board representative and tell them what you think. These people represent us! And what they are doing is not keeping with the values of our community, at least not this community as I know it.
