A woman is listed in critical condition following a vehicle-pedestrian accident that took place in downtown Winnsboro on Jan. 15.

Annie Brown-Lyles was struck by driver Roosevelt Johnson Friday night while crossing Congress Street with her granddaughter.

“Her granddaughter was able to make it across the street,” said Winnsboro Department of Public Safety Director Freddie Lorick.

Johnson said he did not see the woman until his Chevrolet truck was within five feet of her, Lorick explained.

A breathalyzer test was performed on Johnson following the accident. The reading (of zero) indicated he did not have any alcohol in his system.

Lyles is at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.

The accident is still under investigation.
