GIRLS
The Lady Eagles started the night out against Newberry Academy. It did not take the Lady Eagles long to gain a lead over Newberry Academy. Once they obtained it it was not hard for them to keep it for the remainder of the first period. When the second period began, the Lady Eagles were winning 12 to 6 over Newberry Academy. During the second period the Lady Eagles were still able to keep their lead. Newberry Academy managed to double the amount of points they had, but they were still down by 7 points.
When halftime came around, the Lady Eagles were in the lead 19-12 over Newberry Academy.
In the third period, the Lady Eagles came out ready to win. The Lady Eagle offense easily broke through Newberry's defense to score 10 points. At the same time the Lady Eagle defense kept Newberry Academy from scoring a lot of points. At the end of the third period, the Lady Eagles were winning 29 to 16.
The fourth period went the same as the third. Newberry Academy only managed to score 4 points on Richard Winn and was not able to fend them off from scoring 17 points. The fourth period was also a big moment for one of Richard Winn’s players, sophomore Alex Maass, as she reached 1,000 points in her career.
When the game ended, the Lady Eagles won 46-20 over Newberry Academy.
The leading scorer for the Lady Eagles was Alex Maass with 19 points. Next up was Brittany Speagle with 10 points. Britney Poland had 9 points. Carol Ann Elliott, Katherine Matthews, Victoria Bennett and Xaviera Johnson scored 2 points each.
BOYS
The boys game went just as well as the girls' game did. In the first period the Eagles immediately took the lead and scored 12 points, while allowing Newberry Academy to score only 5 points. The Eagles did not stop in the second period. They scored 11 more points while Newberry managed to score 8 more points. When halftime came around, Richard Winn was beating Newberry Academy 23-13.
Newberry Academy did their best to catch back up with Richard Winn in the third period, but they just could not do it. They could only score 10 points, while Richard Winn scored 17 more points. At the end of the third period, the Richard Winn Eagles were beating the Newberry Eagles 40-23.
Newberry did not give up in the fourth period. They tried their hardest, and were able to score 14 points, but it just was not enough. Richard Winn was prepared to win this game, and they succeeded. When the buzzer went off, the Richard Winn Eagles won 50-37 over Newberry Academy.
The leading scorer for the Eagles was Mackenzie Robinson with 21 points. Drew Maass was next with 15 points. G. Coleman scored 12 points and McNaire had 2 points.
