Jonah Furquan, 17, was arrested and charged with burglary, armed robbery, four counts of assault and battery with intent to kill and various gun charges (pending), for his involvement in the shooting, reported Public Safety chief Freddie Lorick.
“We think it was a robbery that went bad,” Lorick said.
Furquan and a second unidentified suspect entered 448 Shooteny Alley at approximately 10:50 p.m. wearing masks and armed with a handgun and shotgun. Once inside, shots were fired, injuring four of the 10 people inside the house.
Laquinta Qualls, Anthony Russell Jr., Sherman Gibson and Trent Sampson were all transported to a Columbia hospital with injuries.
Lorick said Gibson was shot in the back and is listed in critical condition. The others suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers arrested Furquan about an hour after the shooting occurred.
“When he was arrested, the weapon believed to be involved in the shooting and other evidence was found near the suspect,” Lorick said.
The incident is still under investigation.
In what Lorick believes to be an unrelated incident, Sampson was arrested earlier this month and charged with possession of a firearm after pulling out a gun on a group of teenagers who were beating up his friend at Deer Wood Apartments, 647 U.S. Hwy. 321 Bypass S.
