If this year’s edition of recreational T-Ball is any indication of the future of Fairfield County softball and baseball, then the future is bright . . . very bright.

For approximately 45 minutes Monday evening, the Fairfield County Recreation Department’s 3- 5-year old Mets and Tigers put on a show in the season finale that any parent would be proud of.

As each of the very young athletes batted and came across the plate twice, the very audible gathering of parents, family and friends looked on and cheered.

“They are our future in sports,” said parent Steven Rhodes. “We have to get our children involved at an early age and continue to support them as they get older.”

After the game, each of the T-ball stars were rewarded for their contributions this season with a trophy. Everyone in attendance was also treated to pizza and drinks along with other refreshments.

Monday evening’s game was originally scheduled for Monday, May 3, but was postponed because of bad weather.

“We wanted to play the game last week and get it over with but I’m glad they played today and with this turnout it really makes the kids feel special. Well, they are special, every single one of them,” Rhodes added.

The FCRD Mets were coached this season by Tim Gambrell, Lee Gambrell and Shannon Woodard. Their roster includes, Alex Young, Blake Gambrell, Calyshia Rice, Davis Novak, DeAsia Bouknight, Dre Gladden, Elizabeth Clark, Essence London, Ethan Belk, Ethan Gattis, Jamiyah Kennedy, Kia Jones, Robert Ramsey, Rylan Woodard and Skyous Adams.

Head coach for the Tigers is Marvin Robertson. His team consists of Joshua Rhodes, Justice Harrison, Jakeem Samuels, Carmonie Robertson, Myles Robertson, Jashawn Manning, Tae Perry, KeShawn Miller, Aloncia Sampson and Jermaria Edmonds.
