The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools is standing by, waiting for another update from the Fairfield County School District on their progress thus far in meeting five recommendations left for them by the accreditation agency last fall.

Tuesday night, the school board received a briefing from Tiwana Meggett, director of human resources, on what she plans to submit to SACS on the district's behalf.

"We have to understand that SACS is an ongoing process," Meggett told the board. "They want to see that we have changed to way that we conduct business."

Meggett told the board that the June 1 update will include the district's strategic plan, as well as goals, objectives and measuring tools for both the superintendent and the board of trustees.

"They (SACS) understand that we're not going to be totally complete," Meggett said, "but we have to be complete with our SACS plan by October."

Meggett said the update will also include an updated employee list and a proposed organizational chart for 2010-2011. The only difference, she said, between this chart and one recently approved by the board are the names given to specific positions in order to make them more consistent throughout.

Also included in the update packet will be agendas from board meetings, a copy of the most recent salary study, as well as a recap of the 2010-2011 budget process and a copy of the proposed budget.

The school renewal plan and the district survey – in which nearly every teacher participated, Meggett said – will be included as well.

Board Chairwoman Annie McDaniel briefly noted that the district was also making an effort to make the minutes from the board's meetings accessible in a more user-friendly way on the district's Web site.

The update is due to SACS by June 1.
